The students will be divided into 2 groups, gr 1-3 and 4-7. Each group will have approx 1 hour with each art form- music and movement each day. At the end of the 5 days there will be an impromptu performance that parents and community members can view.
Students need to be dressed in loose clothing ready for movement. (be sure they can go upside down without exposing themselves!) Please bring indoor footwear, a water bottle and a snack.
Movement will be creative, improvisation, a bit of dance technique and choreography. We will use music and movement ideas taken from different areas of the world to base our classes and finished dances on. Most of the dances will be created by the students who will learn different techniques of creating and shaping movement. This would compliment any dance training they have, but probably not repeat what they have learned already. No experience is necessary.
Music class will be a mixture of singing, percussion, listening and musical games. We will explore several different styles of music from around the world. Each class will learn a number of songs that will stick in their heads for weeks. As for the games, what better way to get a taste of world music and have fun at the same time. Students will learn to play rhythms on several different percussion instruments, and create their own musical compositions.Contact: Kimberley Arts Council 250-427-4919, kimberleyarts@cyberlink.bc.ca
