It doesn’tmatter if you take photographs with your cell phone, point and shoot style or aDSLR. The maximum number of participantsis 50 so it is best to sign up early. Upon completion of the photo walk we will all meet at alocal watering hole to share images, share stories and just relax after awonderful morning.
ScottKelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk is the world’s largest global social photographyevent in the history of photography itself. It takes place on the same day around the world where photographers ofall walks of life and skill levels gather together, learn new tips from eachother, and explore their corner of the world through photography.
“In2008, we had 241 walks,” said Scott Kelby, founder of NAPP, editor-in-chief ofPhotoshop User magazine and president of Kelby Media Group. “Last year, we had over 900 walks with over32,000 photographers participating. Wedid the math...your average photographer will take upwards of 300 photos duringa photo walk. That means that nearly 10million pictures were taken in that one single day that may never have happenedotherwise. I think that’s pretty cooland we all can’t wait to see what happens this year.
Anyonecan participate too. All you need is acamera. It doesn’t matter what kind ofcamera either. People have showed upwith disposables in the past, had a blast, and left with a new appreciation forphotography.
Kelby credits the success and popularityof the event to the social aspect of photography the world over. “Photographyis usually viewed as a solitary activity, but the truth of the matter is thatpeople love to shoot together, compare notes and just have fun withphotography,” said Kelby. “The Worldwide Photo Walk is a social phenomenon.I’ve had group leaders contact me to tell me that they’ve turned their walkinto a monthly event. Other people tell me that they’ve made friends at thevery first Photo Walk that they’ve kept to this day. It’s the joy of shootingwith friends, new and old that makes this event so special.”
In addition to enjoying a day ofphotography with other like-minded individuals, participants may also beeligible to win prizes from theWorldwide Photo Walk’s sponsors if their photo is chosen as the best photo ofthe day by their walk leader. Each winning walk photo is then entered into aglobal competition where Scott Kelby picks the single “best photo” of the eventalong with 10 runners-up.
This is the first year that Kimberleyand area is included in the Worldwide Photo Walk. “I hope that we reach themaximum of 50 participants,” says Dave Parker, the Photo Walk leader. “Add tothat, blue skies and we will have the makings of a truly wonderful social day”
